Exploring Budapest, Hungary

Budapest is one of the prettiest and most charming cities in Europe. It is the capital of Hungary, located on the banks of the Danube. It is made up of Pest and Buda, formerly two separate towns. The stunning architecture of this unique city is the reason why Budapest got nickname “Paris of the East”.  In 1987 Budapest was added to the  UNESCO World Heritage List.

The main attractions of the city are Banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle Quarter, Andrássy Avenue, Chain Bridge, Parliament Building and Heroes’ Square.

The best way to see the city is from the Danube on cruise ships, especially in the night when all the buildings are illuminated with colorful lights. The Buda Castle Quarter is located on a hill next to the Danube, from it you can see Pest on the opposite side of the Danube. Chain Bridge was first bridge built in Budapest, after its completion Buda and Pest were formally united. The best way to see it is also from Buda Castle. Hungarian Parliament Building was built in 1904 and it is one of the most beautiful parliament buildings is the world. Heroes’ Square is located in Pest on the end of Andrássy Avenue and it is dedicated “To the memory of the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of our people and our national independence.”

Budapest and whole Hungary are also well known for delicious food. Most famous dishes are Gulasch, Hortobágyi palacsinta and Dobos cake.

The best way to get in Budapest is by plane (Budapest Franz Liszt International Airport ) or by train (trains connect Budapest with almost all countries in central and eastern Europe).
