Visiting the Acropolis in Athens, Greece

Greece has many things to offer to any visitor, from sandy beaches and blue sea to ancient monuments. The Acropolis of Athens, located on a high rock above the city of Athens, is one of the most famous ancient attraction in the whole world. Most of the buildings on Acropolis were built in 5^th century BC in the Athens Golden Age, between the Persian and Peloponnesian wars.

On the Acropolis there are remains of a few different ancient buildings, including the Parthenon, the Propylaia, the Erechtheion and the temple of Athena Nike. The most famous is the Parthenon.

The Parthenon is the dominant structure on Acropolis and it is one of the most photographed buildings in the world. It is dedicated to the maiden goddess Athena. The Parthenon and whole Acropolis of Athens was damaged during Morean War in 17^th century, when it was bombed by Venetians.

At the moment the whole Acropolis is under reconstruction, the idea is to be rebuilt as it was originally designed in 5^th century BC. If you are planning to visit Greece you should really include the Acropolis of Athens to your trip.
